Last year Spike TV came out with a hip new show called Blue Mountain State. It is a comical show that is a spin-off of National Lampoon's Animal House and Van Wilder, and uses this as a template to show the wild and crazy lifestyles of college students. It features the outrageous life of a football-centric university, that covers college life topics that revolve around football, scoring chicks, binge drinking, wild partying, and hazing. Season 2 premiered October 20th, and it is predicted to be a bang. The new season still stars main characters Alex Moran (Darin Brooks), quirky team captain Thad Castle (Alan Ritchson), and newest member Radon Randell (Page Kennedy) who plays their new freshmen starting quarterback.

A montage of the whimsical events that is Blue Mountain State.

Last year My roommates and I would watch this show religiously every Tuesday. It was a tradition that kept us entertained, and gave us a sense of structure in our hectic college lifestyle. I love this show because of the relate-ability it provides to us students in school, and it shows the crazy college stereotype that our inner party animals want to experience. This show allows it's audience to vicariously live the BMS lifestyle and does so in a nonstop pee-in-your-pants comedy. Join the BMS team every Wednesday at 11pm on SPIKE TV. Catch up on all the latests episodes you may have missed at spike's website.

Private Parts

Howard (as MamaLookaboobooday):
"Kill Kill Kill the White Man" by Eugene Mamalookaboobooday. Eugene is my pen name 'cause I wrote this while I was in the Pen.

In this scene Howard has just been told by "Pig Vomit" (Paul Giamatti) the list of words he is not allowed to say on air.
Of course this is Stern's reaction to "The Man" trying to censor him.

One lazy Sunday day, when my roommates and I were bumming around watching movies all day, we came across a classic HBO movie. This movie was called Private Parts, the life story of Howard Stern and how he changed the face of radio. Released in 1997, Private Parts was written and stars Howard Stern and his other life cohorts including Robin Quivers and Mary McCormack who plays Howard's wife. This auto-biographical story is hilarious and genuinely authentic. I love how Howard actually stars in his own movie, because there really isn't any one else that could portray the unbelievable wacky nature that is Stern. It documents his life story in a different way than other biographical documentations and includes real people that gives a strong back-story. This movie really appealed to me after reading a little about Howard Stern in the radio chapter of our Media books. I found it very interesting and it immediately caught my attention.

This movie excellently depicts the struggles of a little Howard, and the constant criticism he received for trying to make it in the radio industry. People always told him he didn't have the voice for radio, and told him to quit many times. Even with this relentless criticism, Howard continues in the radio business and brings with him his unique bland of comedy to the industry. Even with his ridiculous behaviors, Howard seemed to attract everyone who heard him. No matter how many times "the man" tried to shut him down, Howard proved victorious with the power of his fans. He changed the world of radio and with it, he shows the world that any dream is possible.

Magazine Presentation

Weekly Wednesday Wallposts Transworld provides

Transworld Snowboarding Website

THESIS: The world’s #1 snowboarding magazine, bringing you all the latest on the hottest news, gear, and trends for the shredtastic world of snowboarding.

5 facts: HOW TO "Wall Ride" PG 143

1. 1. Remember to keep your base flat as long as you can, making sure to do a fully flat based Ollie off the wall at the end.

2. 2. When approaching the wallride, pick your spot on the wall before dropping in, and really setting your line towards that spot as you take off

3. 3. Before attempting the wall ride, make sure your comfortable going straight on to angled wallrides with rock to fakies, frontside 180s backdown, and general flat-basing on the wall.

4. 4. Make sure to suck up your knees as much as possible before getting up to the wall, allowing your base to get fully vertical.

5. 5. Do not over-rotate off your heels from the takeoff. You’re coming up to meet the wall, not falling backwards into it.

Triune Brain: Transworld Snowboarding focus on images first before words. It is a very limbic magazine, with neo-cortexual words to compliment it. All the images and pictures are very big, colorful, and in your face to make sure you pay attention to them. Snowboarding is an extreme action sport, and this magazine does a great job capturing its natural explosiveness.

8 trends: Transworld Snowboarding embraces IMAGE over word. They realize that pictures speak way louder than words, and it is the only appropriate means to quantify this extreme sport. Transworld’s Epistemological shift is a great example for how magazines have managed to survive with the changing times.

7 Principles: When reading a magazine like this, I see common messages that are incorporated throughout it. Along with the amazing pictures, this magazine includes helpful advice with sprinkles of goofy humor everywhere. This really goes along with the general Shredder lifestyle of having the best time of your life, while helping your friends along the way. Any rider reading this immediately feels this valued message, which lets them relate to the content a lot easier.

29 Persuasive Techniques: This magazine uses a variety of persuasive technique to really entice their audience to read it. One great one they do, that I briefly mentioned before, is Humor. Almost every other page will have some kind of comic relief, whether if it’s a funny quote or a silly picture of something. Another great technique they use is Plain Folk. They often have articles with interviews from the riders that show how there just like every other rider. They also give “How To” and rider advice that make it seem like it’s just another one your buddies helping you out.

Midterm Reflections: A look at our first weeks

1. After studying 21st century media, I have learned a variety of new skills and information about media and how our world use's these platforms. The main concept I have taken is the importance of 21st technology converging with our society, creating a new face to the market.

2. The most important thing I have learned about myself as a critical reader, writer, and thinker, I am very influenced by media and the exposure we have to it everyday. It makes me think about everyday choices, which in turn reflects in my writings.

3. If I were to take this class again, I would memorize my power tools so I knew them like the back of my hand. This would help me with the quiz's and trying to think of the power tools when looking at real life examples.

4. Something you could do differently is make the blog posts due before the time of the class. I'm always short of time and tend to forget to blog on those lazy Sundays. Other than that I love this class and think the format is extremely effective

5. Power Tools- I like the power tools and I have found myself applying them in my other classes. They are very useful and I've impressed lots of teachers

Course Blog- Although I like the idea of blogging and understand why it is necessary, it is difficult sometimes to keep up with them and create a post that is actually insightful.

Personal Blog- The idea of my own blog is a great one and something I will be able to show off to future employees and job opportunities.

Quiz's- Although everyone hate's taking quiz's, I think it's a great concept to have these small tests. It keeps us focuses and sharp for the materials we need to know. It does this in a manner that is simple and not stressful.

Film- The films are goof because the give us real life applications for the power tools.

Books- Although I enjoy the book and find it very interesting, I feel I have not learned as much from it as opposed to our "in class" discussions, projects, and activities.
